As the muscle car started to sky rocket Hayes saw the next inevitable trend
to be the European auto market.
Why European Cars?
The 60’s and 70’s car buyers were focused on big motors, high horse power and super speed in a straight line. Most loved the big blocked Camaros and GTOs. As prices escalated, it left a void in the car market. Baby boomers and their sons and daughters snatched up the muscle cars from Detroit creating this void for the true collector. These generations of buyers competed for the same rare products and the market became dry quickly.
Detroit’s reactions to create the practical gas efficient autos left the market with boring designs and lost its edge for the auto enthusiast. The Europeans continued to produce exhilarating machines that were not only fast, take an S curve with as much G Force as the driver could brave, while still maintaining good gas mileage.
